Bougainvillea Steps
A narrow passage climbing into full afternoon light. Bougainvillea arches overhead, and a few fallen bracts have settled on the stone below. At the far end, a single blue shutter — small, distant, and the only note of colour the architecture allows itself. Painted in smooth-blended oil with one light source from the upper left, the piece is built on warm chalk white against deep, glazed shadow. Handling loosens as the steps recede; the eye finishes the walk on its own. Third in a set of three. Hung alongside Bougainvillea Doorway and Bougainvillea Window, it completes a near-to-far sequence across a single afternoon — the same walls, the same hour, seen from three distances.
